Dados Históricos: As Cáligas são Integrantes do grupo das vestes pontificais, as Sandálias Pontificais são utilizadas somente pelos bispos (ocorrendo de sua utilização ser esporadicamente concedida aos Abades ou outros dignitários diretamente pelo Papa) no cumprimento de suas funções litúrgicas, simbolizando a distinção do prelado eclesiástico. Sua cor segue o tempo litúrgico, excetuando se a cor preta, cuja celebração das exéquias e demais não permitem o uso das Sandálias. Não se pode confundir a Cáliga com as sandálias, já que a Cáliga (confeccionada com linho em seu desenvolvimento e atualmente com seda) é a meia que cobre a perna do dignitário, sendo a Sandália da altura do tornozelo do dignitário. A constituição geralmente é em tecido fino (Seda ou Veludo), solados de couro e bordados a ouro ou prata. Tal conjunto (Cáligas e Sandálias Pontificais) é desconhecido no rito Oriental, sendo utilizada somente no rito Romano Tridentino. A cor verde se usa nos ofícios e missa do Tempo Comum. Simboliza a cor das plantas e árvores, prenunciando a esperança da vida eterna.

Historical Data: Cáligas are members of the group of pontifical vestments, Pontifical Sandals are used only by the bishops (as their use is sporadically granted to the Abbots or other dignitaries directly by the Pope) in the fulfillment of their liturgical functions, symbolizing the distinction of the prelate churchman. Its color follows the liturgical time, except for the black color, whose celebration of funerals and others do not allow the use of sandals. The Cáliga cannot be confused with sandals, since the Cáliga (made with linen in its development and currently with silk) is the sock that covers the leg of the dignitary, the Sandal being the ankle height of the dignitary. The composition is usually made of fine fabric (silk or velvet), leather soles and embroidered in gold or silver. Such set (Caligas and Pontifical Sandals) is unknown in the Eastern rite, being used only in the Roman Tridentine rite. The green color is used in the services and Mass of Ordinary Time. It symbolizes the color of plants and trees, foreshadowing the hope of eternal life.
