English Version

The Our Lady of  Conception  Seminar had its construction begin in December 7, 1858 in the right side of the Church of Our Lady of Good Dispatch, being designed by the first bishop of Cuiabá, Bishop Jose Antonio dos Reis, who chose the major engineer Pedro Heitor to prepare the architectural design and construction under the responsibility of Captain Antônio de Cerqueira Caldas.
The work was completed 24 years later in 1882 by Dom Luiz D’Amour, who was the first archbishop of Cuiabá. The building was destined exclusively for the formation of Seminarians, but Given the different circumstances of the historical context, the Seminary became a Infirmary during the smallpox epidemic, in 1867, and Headquarters during the struggle between political parties, in 1906.

In 1922, Archbishop Dom Francisco de Aquino Corrêa transferred the episcopal residence to the building, residing there for 34 years until his death on March 22, 1956. In that period the building also housed the Historical Institute and the Academy of Letters of the Province. Dom Aquino's successor, Dom Orlando Chaves continued to direct the Seminar as a Teaching Institute, later using the ground floor for dormitories and classrooms of the Archdiocesan Social Action department.

In 1958,the Radio Station Bom Jesus de Cuiabá was installed on the lower floor of the building. And in 1964, the religious action was transferred to the Cristo Rei Seminar, in Várzea Grande.

In 1977, the Cultural Foundation of Mato Grosso listed the Seminar and the Church at the state level, through ordinance No. 47/77, published in the Official Gazette on October 11 of that same year as Historical, Artistic and Cultural Heritage of the State. At the municipal level, the listing as a Natural Landscape that includes the Morro and the surrounding properties was listed on December 13, 1983.
